Alstonia scholaris 

Alstonia scholaris is an evergreen tropical tree in the family Apocynaceae. This tree is native to Assam. The Assamese common name of the tree is চতিয়না (Chatiyana or Sotiyana). Other common names are Blackboard tree, Indian devil tree, Dita bark, and Milkwood. It is a fast growing plant and is like a decorated tree.
The Blackboard tree is a large glabrous tree and grows up to 30 m tall. Its mature bark is grayish and irregularly cracked. Upper side of the leaves is glossy, while the underside is grey. Six nos. of leaves grows on a stem in whorled.  
Arrangement of leaves is simple and whorled, shape is obovate, oblanceolate or obovate-oblong, margin is entire. 
It is a poisonous plant, but bark of Alstonia scholaris is used as a medicine for treatment of skin disorders, malarial fever, urticaria, chronic dysentery, and diarrhea.
The wood of Blackboard tree is light in weight. So it is used in manufacturing light weight utensils and pencils, corks, coffins etc.
