Plants of Assam

Assam is a state in the northeastern part of India. The state of Assam is situated between 24° 08′ 10′′ and 27° 58′ 15′′ N latitudes and 89° 42′ 05′′ and 96° 01′ 14′′ E longitudes. The state covers an area of 78,738 square kilometers. Topographically, the state can be divided into three parts: the Brahmaputra Valley, the Barak Valley, and the mountainous Assam Ranges. The state has a subtropical climate with temperatures ranging from 5 °C to 32 °C and a mean annual rainfall varying from 1,500 mm to 3,750 mm. The recorded forest area of Assam is 26,832 square kilometres. The State of Assam is a constituent unit of the Eastern Himalayan Biodiversity Region. Assam is a biodiversity “hot spot.”
Assam has a high biodiversity due to its favourable geographical location, diverse topography, and ideal climatic conditions. The vegetation of Assam is primarily of the tropical type, covering areas of evergreen and semi-evergreen grasslands, deciduous forests, grasslands, and riverside forests.
